David E. Nichols
David "Dave" Nichols was a self-professed "idea man" and he brought those ideas to fruition as Director of Intown Associates for the Portland Chamber of Commerce and later for emerging businesses after he and his wife, Fran, moved to China where she taught english.
One of Dave's lasting ideas led to the creation of this fund to provide financial support to non-profit organizations - orchestras, theaters, school arts programs, and sometimes for those activities that may not be funded through regular grants - a high school robotics team, for example, needs equipment or a teacher would like to purchase tickets for students to attend theater, orchestra or other performances.
Today Dave's vision is alive throughout the State of Maine. The Nichols Fund is here to support your work.

Any organization designated for a grant (up to $5,000) from The Nichols Fund must be "tax exempt" and must qualify under section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended. Grants may be awarded to public schools. No grant or gift may be made to an individual person or to a for-profit corporation.
